Waldenar Pawlak

Member of the Eleventh Term Senate.

Member of the Tenth, First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Term Sejm.

 

Born on 5 September 1959 in Model.

In 1984, he graduated from the Faculty of Motor Vehicles and Working Machines at the Warsaw University of Technology.

He ran a farm.

He was a Member of the Sejm for eight terms (1989–2015). During the Fifth Term, he was Chairman of the Local Self-Government and Regional Policy Committee. He held the office of Prime Minister twice (in 1992 and 1993–1995). From 2007 to 2012, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy in Donald Tusk’s government. From 2010 to 2012, he sat on the National Security Council. In 2011, he led the Polish Presidency of the European Union in the EU Councils of Energy, Trade and Competitiveness. He served as deputy chairman of the inter-ministerial team for the coordination of actions taken in connection with the tragic air accident near Smoleńsk.

He was a co-founder of the Foundation for the Development of Local Government Loan Funds. He was a member of the supervisory boards of: “Florian” Insurance Agency, “Mostostal Słupca”, Lublin Airport. From 2001 to 2005 he was President of the Board of Warsaw Commodity Exchange, and since 2018 he has been President of the Management Board of the “Polskie Młyny” company. Since 1992, he has been President of the General Board of the Association of Voluntary Fire Brigades.

He was awarded, among others: Grand Commander’s Cross of the Order “For Merits to Lithuania”, Order of St Charles, Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Portugal.

 

Member of the Polish People’s Party. He was the chairman of the party (1991–1997 and 2005–2012) and chairs the Polish People’s Party General Council.
