Member of the Eleventh Term Senate.

Born on 1 December 1962 in Głogów.

In 1986, he graduated from the Higher Officer School of the Mechanised Forces. In 1989, he attended a course for battalion commanders at the Centre for Officer Development. From 1992 to 1993, he studied at the National Defence Academy in Rembertów. In 1998, he completed a tactical-operational course at this academy. In 2000, he completed postgraduate studies at the Defence Policy College. In 2011, he obtained a doctoral degree in the management of public entities.

He began his military service in 1986 in the 42nd Mechanised Regiment in Żary as a platoon commander. After completing his internship in the Combat Training Branch of the Silesian Military District, he was chief of training in the 34th Armoured Cavalry Brigade in Żagań, and then chief of staff in that brigade. In 1999, he assumed the duties of commander of the 17th “Wielkopolska” Mechanised Brigade (WBZ) in Międzyrzecz. In 2003, he began his service as Chief of Staff in the command of the 11th Armoured Cavalry Division in Żagań. In 2005, he received a general nomination and again commanded the 17th WBZ. In 2008, he was appointed deputy chief of the Strategic Planning Board P-5 of the General Staff of the Polish Army. In 2009, he received the position of commander of the 11th Armoured Cavalry Division and was nominated to the rank of major general. From 2012 to 2013, he headed the Department of Defence Strategy and Planning at the Ministry of Defence. He served as a representative of the Ministry of Defence for the reform of the system of management, direction and command of the Polish Armed Forces. From 2015 to 2016, he was Commander General of the Armed Forces; he resigned from his post.

He initiated and introduced a new training model for sharpshooters in the ground forces. He implemented the KTO Rosomak armoured personnel carrier in the armed forces, formed the first fully professional motorised battalion, which took part in the 1st and 2nd shift of the Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan. In 2007, he participated in the 8th shift of the Polish Military Contingent in Iraq. In 2016, he conducted the practical part of the largest post-1989 armed forces exercise “Anakonda” involving more than 30,000 soldiers from 25 countries. In 2017, he founded the ‘Stratpoints’ Foundation for Security and Development.

He was awarded, among others: Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, Military Cross of Merit with Swords, Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland, the Medal “For Merit for National Defence”, the Medal of the Armed Forces in the Service of the Fatherland”, the Iraq Star, and the Bundeswehr Cross of Honour in Gold. He received the 2008 Mace Award (Buzdygan 2008).
