Senator of the 8 th, 9 th and 10 th term Senate

 

He was born on 14 March 1947 in Potok-Stany.
In 1973, he graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, obtaining his Master’s degree in mathematics. In 1973-1976, he was a PhD student at the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), and in 1987-1995, he was an adjunct at the same institute. He received a PhD in Medical Sciences in 1977, and a post-doctoral degree in 1994. In 1992, he became a docent at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Joensuu in Finland. He received the title of doctor honoris causa at two national universities in Ukraine. In 1976-1987, he was a lecturer at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin. Between 1991 and 1993, he worked as associate professor at the University of Joensuu in Finland and Hokkaido University in Osaka in Japan. In the years 1997-1998, he was an advisor for database computerisation and organisation at a cement plant in Chełm. As an Associate Professor, he gave lectures i.a. at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (1996-2018), at the Higher School
of Economics in Nisko (1998-2004), at the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów (1999-2001) and at the University of Rzeszów (2005-2006). In 1999-2001, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Higher School of Foreign Languages and Economics in Częstochowa, and from 1997 to 2018, he was the head of the Department of Mathematics Application of the KUL. Since 2001 he has had close relations with the State School of Higher Education in Chełm – he was the founder and the first Rector of the school (2001- 2016). Currently, he is the Prorector for Development at this school. He initiated and coordinated the establishment of the first Academic Airport in Chełm as well as Depułtycze Królewskie Airport (EPCD).
He is a mathematician, specialising in the application of complex analysis and mathematical economics. His academic contribution includes over 130 scientific papers published in national and foreign journals, two handbooks on navigation and aviation phraseology and one on the organisation of higher education. He is also a co-author of four patent applications for the concept of mathematical modelling of technical problems. He is a reviewer at ‘Mathematical Reviews’ – an electronic database and a journal, published by the American Mathematical Society (AMS).
For his social and organisational activities, he was awarded, among others, the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2011) and the Gold Cross of Merit (2000). In 2005, he was granted the title of ‘Man of the Year of the Lubelskie region’. In 2011, he was named the ‘Citizen of Chełm of 2010’ and in 2015, he was received the Honorary Badge for Merit for Lubelskie Voivodeship. In 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019, he was awarded diplomas and commemorative badges for supporting the activities of the organisations of Kresy, dissemination of historical knowledge on Wołyń and strengthening the ethos of the Home Army. For his efforts towards Polish–Ukrainian agreement, he was awarded the Second Class Order of Mary Magdalene Equal to the Apostles. His activity for the development of scientific and economical cooperation between Poland and Canada was honoured in 2019 with the Gold Medal of the 100th anniversary of Polonia in Windsor.
He actively supports Polish–Ukrainian dialogue as part of the Partnership and Cooperation Foundation. He also sits on the Council of the ‘Otwórzmy swoje serca’ (‘Open our hearts’) Foundation for the Disabled and People in Need.
His hobbies include gliding and aeroplane piloting, economics, Polish and Ukrainian history, apiculture and hunting.
