He was born on 18 July 1970 in Racibórz.
He graduated from the Jesuit University Ignatianum in Kraków, where he obtained his Master’s degree in Pedagogy. He is a psychotherapist.
He worked as a social worker at the Crisis Assistance Centre of the
Association for the Disabled SPES and in the ‘Akcent’ Rehabilitation
Centre as a pedagogue. He is the founder of ‘Dobry Dom’ Association. He was the President of the ‘Akcent’ Silesian Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Disabled and the Chairman of the Programme Board of the Integration and Library Therapy Department of the Silesian Library. He served as the Deputy Treasurer of the International Parliament of the Disabled Persons and the Deputy Chairman of Very Special Arts Poland. In 2002, he initiated the Krystyna Bochenek Lady D. Competition aimed at promoting the activity among the disabled women.
From 2006 to 2007, he was a Councillor on the Katowice City Council.
In the 2014 European elections, he obtained a mandate of a Member of the European Parliament of the 8 th term. He was granted the MEP Award 2019 for the best Member of the European Parliament in category: Employment, Social Affairs and Regions.
He is a member of: the Związek Górnośląski (Upper Silesian Society), the Association of People of Silesian Nationality, ‘Dobry Dom’ Association, the Grodzki Theatre Foundation and the Society of Polish Town Planners. He was awarded the Order of the Smile and was the winner of the competitions ‘Człowiek bez barier’ (‘Person without barriers’) and ‘Lodołamacze’ (‘Ice Breakers’).
