Zbigniew Meres

Member of the Seventh Term Senate

Born on 18th January 1952 in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
In 1975 graduated from the Command and Prevention Faculty of the Higher Firefighting Officer School in Warsaw and, in 1980, from the Political and Legal Faculty of the Internal Affairs Academy in Warsaw.
1975–1976 and 1978–1997 worked at Katowice Provincial Firefighting Command (1992–1997 – provincial commander). From 1997 to 2002 was commander-in-chief of the State Firefighting Service and, between 2000 and 2002, was chief of National Civil Defence. Between 2002 and 2003 was director of the Public Safety Department at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration. Lecturer at the Higher School of Labour Protection Management in Katowice.
In 2003–2007 was deputy mayor of the town of Piekary Śląskie. In 2007 – general director of the Silesian Province Marshal’s Office in Katowice.
President of the board of the Silesian Province Section of Volunteer Firefighting Services in Katowice and deputy president of the main board of Volunteer Firefighting Services. Member of Volunteer Firefighting Services in Łęka.
In the Seventh Term Senate was deputy chairman of the Rules, Ethics and Senatorial Affairs Committee and member of the National Defence Committee and Local Government and State Administration Committee
Member of the Civic Platform Party of Poland, member of its national council and chairman of party’s circle no 5 in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
Married, has two children.
