Member of the Sixth and Seventh Term Senate
Born on 15th February 1951 in Dulsk.
In 1975, graduated from the Agricultural Faculty at the Academy of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn. In 1979, obtained the degree of doctor of agricultural sciences and, in 1986, the degree of doctor habilitated. In 1993, obtained the title of professor. Visiting professor at numerous universities in the United States, Japan, Italy and Great Britain.
Became an academic teacher in 1975. Since 1991 – director of the Department of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry (now the Department of Plant Physiology and Biotechnology) at the Biology Faculty at the Academy of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn. 1996–1999 – vice rector of the Academy for educational affairs. 1999–2008 – first rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, which he helped to establish. 2008–2010 was dean of the Biology Faculty at the University.
Published over 150 scientific works. Co-author of several academic textbooks and scientific books, organizer of national and international conferences, among others – I Conference of the Polish Experimental Plant Biology Society.
Deputy chairman of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Member of the Polish Experimental Plant Biology Society, Polish Botanical Society, Olsztyn Scientific Forum and International Society for Seed Science.
In the Sixth Term Senate was member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Science, Education and Sports Committee. In the Seventh Term Senate was deputy chairman of the Science, Education and Sports Committee and member of the Health Committee; chairman of the Delegation of the Sejm and the Senate of the Republic of Poland to the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference.
Member of the Civic Platform Party of Poland.
Married, has two children.
