Deputy to the First Term Sejm of the Republic of Poland

Born on 9th January 1944 in Gace Słupieckie.
In 1963 he graduated from the Mechanics and Metallurgy Technical School in Cracow.
Until 2004 worked, with breaks, in the Vladimir Lenin Steelworks (now Tadeusz Sendzimir Steelworks). In March 1968 he was suspended for refusal to join hit squads pacifying students demonstrations. At the end of the 1970s he distributed the “Robotnik” magazine and leaflets of the Studencki Komitet Solidarności (student Solidarity committee); was the editor of the “Głos Nowej Huty” magazine. In August 1980 he participated in a strike; was the spokesperson for strikers in one of steelwork’s department. From September 1980 he held a seat in the Management of Metalworkers Labour Committee (KRH), and from March 1981 he has been the chairman of the KRH in the Solidarity Trade Union. He became the vice-chairman, and later the chairman of the Management Board of Solidarity Trade Union in Małopolska. Leader of the Trade Union delegation to the Congress of the International Metalworkers’ Federation in Washington in May 1981. Delegate to the First National Assembly, and a member of the National Commission of Solidarity Trade Union. In 1981, after the introduction of martial law, he was the leader of a strike at the Vladimir Lenin Steelworks and the chairman of the Regional Strike Committee of Solidarity Trade Union in Małopolska Province. After the strike was routed, he went into hiding; eventually he was arrested and sentenced to 4 years imprisonment; pardoned at the end of 1983. As he was banned from returning to work, he earned his living as a farmer until 1989, while continuing his activity in secret operations of Solidarity Trade Union. He participated in the Round Table Talks and the works of the team for economy and social policy. In 1989 he was again hired by the Vladimir Lenin Steelworks and appointed the chairman of KRH of Solidarity Trade Union. From 2003 to 2011 he held the position of the chairman of the Supervisory Board of Centrum Edukacji i Kształcenia (Education and Training Centre) in Cracow, and between 2006 and 2011 he was an adviser of the president of Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu (Industrial Development Agency).
1998–2002 – deputy to Małopolskie Provincial Parliament.
In the Tenth Term Sejm he worked in the Administration and Internal Affairs Committee. In the First Term Sejm was a member of the Economic System and Industry Committee. He was a member of the special committee for investigation of the outcomes of the martial law and the special subcommittee for identifying the responsibility of persons preparing and executing the martial law, identifying the activities performed by the Ministry of the Interior after 13 December 1981 and the criminal acts of officers.
He was a co-founder of the “Wspólnota Polska” (Polish Community) association (1990). Since 2007 he has been a member of the Kirche in Not (Aid to the Church in Need) council.
In 2006 awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
Member of the Solidarity Trade Union.
Since 1996 he has been a member of the Christian Democrats’ Party. Currently, he is the chairman of the Polish Christian Democrats’ Association.
Married, has two children.
